Restoration of the sandisfield arts center in Sandisfield MA. This 1839 building is on the National Register of Historic Places. The building foundation is granite blocks likely originally quarried in the same town. At some point it was repointed with an improper Portland cement. In many places it was failing and stones were beginning to move around. We removed all the mortar in joints and as much as possible off the face of the stones. We then had the original mortar tested to give us a basis for the new mortar we would repoint with. We used a custom lime, marble sand, and dye to achieve a look and structure as close to the original as possible.
